All I have to say is this:

Wait, Cover Art?

Sun Oct 28, 2007, 7:12 AM
As Heir To The Gallery begins to wind down, I have started considering how I want to have the story put in dead tree format. Not that such things really batter, but I wouldn't mind having a physical copy to have hanging around. Plus, there are a fair number of people who have complained about having to read 300,000 words on a computer screen, which is a fair complaint.

However, as I've been contemplating how to make a physical book, I am struck with one little niggling fact: cover art. If I were to get any sort of nice binding done on the book, I should probably have a good cover to go along with the binding.

That said, I'm not the greatest of artists, nor am I incredibly well-versed in the minutiae of typography. So I don't really know how good a cover I make for myself would really be, much less how exactly to go about doing one.

So, I suppose this is a general call to those people I know who are artist types, who feel like being randomly charitable. At the moment, I'm not close enough to the end yet to know what size the book's going to be, or even how many pages, but I figured I ought to start making plans, especially if I want to get this done by Christmas, to give out copies as presents.

What I do know about the cover is that I don't want any people on it (since I want a large part of that to be a surprise)--but that said, I'm not sure entirely what I do want. Worse comes to worse, I'll raytrace up a nice little scene, even if it looks cheesy.

Either way, I figured I would give a status report: I'm almost at 300,000 words, and things are going well for the story. I project ending at about 325,000 words. And then, I will consider more heavily ways of getting a physical product out of it.

Quarter Of A Million

I took the day off of work today for personal reasons, and had some free time, so I wrote more Heir To The Gallery.

And with that entry, I have surpassed 250,000 words. That's a quarter of a million. That's a lot, and I'm proud that I've made it this far. My goal is to finish the story by the end of the year, but I'm not sure how possible that is, even though I'm making good progress.

I would love to have new readers to the story, but I also understand that a quarter of a million words is daunting. To me, it's more of a personal milestone, a goal that I've finally reached, and it's exhilarating.

For those interested, you can find the story here: Heir To The Gallery. The site still needs an overhaul, but I much prefer working on the story itself, however long it's gotten.

But, onward!

One Year

It's been a little over one year since I started writing Heir To The Gallery.

Yay.

I'm up to about 212,000 words (give or take), and still going strong. In fact, just a while ago, I wrote what I think is a pretty cool fight scene, and I hope to be a good omen for some of the fights to come.

I could, of course, always use new readers, although I understand the backlog to be daunting. Don't worry--by the time you catch up, I'll already be farther along!

Anyways, you can find the story here: Heir To The Gallery. The site needs an overhaul, but with all the other chaos in my life right now, that might not happen for a while.

Either way, this is further pimpage. Yay.

Distance

I not too long ago finished up with the ninth chapter of Heir To The Gallery, thus placing me solidly above 200,000 words (at about 204,000, actually).

In other news, I graduate college this Saturday, and in one month, I begin work at AT&T.

Hopefully my job and writing HTTG do not interfere with each other. On the other hand, I intend on getting through as much of the story as I can before my job starts (for the obvious reason). As I'm getting to the exciting part where there's action and death and chaos (and still a fair amount of drama left), I look forward to it.

I would like more people to read HTTG (hence, why I pimp it out so much); it can be found here.
