I recently took a walk around my college campus, and grabbed this picture in the process. Some might argue it to be more of a snapshot than actually a composed photo, given my lack of true preparation, but I did try to at least pay some attention to composition. I'm just not that good of a photographer.
I find the contrasts in his picture very alluring. Light versus dark, nature versus building, sky versus ground, green versus color. For whatever reason, this picture works for me. It's kind of interesting, because I was trying to focus on the trees in general when taking pictures on my walk, but I feel as though the car is the focus here...but I think in a way, the actual focus of my picture is that we do focus on the car. It is more of an afterthought that we notice the trees and grass. Such beauty around us, and sometimes we miss it.
It is oddly fortuitous that as far as I can tell, there are no people in my picture. Puts an interesting view on things.
Yes, the composition is pretty good actually. The only thing i would have done is made the red car a bit off center because it is the focal point (the thing your eye looks at first). It's the focal point because of it's intense color and the way the lines in the photograph moves towards it. For example, the railing and pathway are lines that lead directly to the car, reinforcing it as the focal point (and in general you never want the focal point in the center). Overall though, it's a good picture.
You know what's a fun tree pic? Lay under a tree and look up and snap a picture. It usually turns out cool. I did that with the windmill in my yard once as well.

Hm. I see what you mean about focal point, to an extent...though making it off-center would, to my mind, throw off the balance in other places. I'll still think about it with more pictures later.
Most of my pictures trying to look up trees don't end up well, and generally serve as nothing more than things to give me vertigo. For whatever reason, I like having a horizon, and having it flat.
